New App 'Wunderfan' Rewards Sports Fan Engagement
A new app called Wunderfan has launched to reward sports fans for activities like watching games, attending events, and engaging with their favorite teams. The platform represents a new approach to sports marketing, directly tying fan passion to tangible rewards.
The app was co-founded by Michael Testa, Blake Patterson, and Geran de Klerk. Patterson, a serial entrepreneur, previously founded and exited the professional employer organization company Simpeo. The concept for Wunderfan evolved from an earlier, golf-focused rewards platform the team built called Wunderpar. In February 2026, Wunderfan announced a $3.1 million investment led by Sororibus Capital to support its growth. This followed earlier funding rounds, including a $2.5 million seed round and an initial $300,000 raised in the first week after its launch. The company had been entirely bootstrapped before its first external capital raise. The platform's "Watch to Earn" feature uses AI-powered photo recognition to verify with over 96% accuracy that a user is watching a live game. After launching the feature, Wunderfan processed hundreds of thousands of submissions in just over a month. For in-person events, the app uses advanced location-based technology to verify attendance at stadiums and arenas. Users earn "Wunder" points for engagement, which can be redeemed for tangible rewards. The platform includes free-to-play pick'em contests where users can win 20-100 points for correctly choosing a game's winner. These points can be used to claim gift cards from brands like Chipotle, Lululemon, and DoorDash, which often sell out within minutes of being added to the app's shop. Co-founder Michael Testa has stated the long-term goal is for Wunderfan to become the "sports engagement everything app," drawing a comparison to Robinhood's all-in-one approach to finance. The app has already gained significant traction, going viral on the University of Oregon campus and acquiring its first 10,000 users within four months.
