São Paulo gets three stars
Two São Paulo restaurants, Evvai and Tuju, were elevated to three Michelin stars in the 2026 guide — a rare top rating for Brazil’s dining scene (g1.globo.com). The announcement was published in the newly released Michelin selections and has been highlighted across Brazilian outlets alongside other regional updates (uol.com.br).
São Paulo now has Latin America’s first three-Michelin-star restaurants: Evvai and Tuju were promoted in the 2026 Michelin Guide on April 13. (guide.michelin.com) Michelin announced the awards at the Copacabana Palace in Rio de Janeiro during the launch of the Rio de Janeiro & São Paulo 2026 guide. Both restaurants had held two stars before moving up to the guide’s top tier. (g1.globo.com) The Michelin Guide says three stars mark “exceptional cuisine” worth a special journey, above two stars for excellent cooking and one star for high-quality cooking. In this edition, the guide kept 149 selected establishments across Rio and São Paulo and added 12 new entries. (guide.michelin.com) (exame.com) The promotion puts Brazil at the top of Michelin’s Latin America map after 11 years of the guide’s presence in the country. Until this week, no restaurant in Brazil or elsewhere in Latin America had reached three stars. (forbes.com.br) (guide.michelin.com) Evvai is led by chef Luiz Filipe Souza, whose tasting menu blends Brazilian and Italian references. Tuju is led by chef Ivan Ralston, and Michelin’s inspectors highlighted both restaurants as destination dining in São Paulo. (guide.michelin.com) (uol.com.br) The rest of the top end of the guide changed less. D.O.M. in São Paulo and Lasai and Oro in Rio kept two stars, while Michelin said no restaurant in Rio or São Paulo lost stars in the 2026 edition. (g1.globo.com) (uol.com.br) At the one-star level, Madame Olympe in Rio de Janeiro was the only new addition, bringing the total number of one-star restaurants in the guide to 19. Michelin also added six new Bib Gourmand restaurants, raising that value-focused category to 44 in Rio and São Paulo. (uol.com.br) Michelin also kept its Green Star awards unchanged, again recognizing A Casa do Porco, Corrutela and Tuju for sustainability-focused practices. The 2026 Brazilian edition also introduced a new mixology category, according to Exame. (uol.com.br) (exame.com) When Evvai was called, Souza said he feared he had “lost some star” before realizing the restaurant had been promoted. By the end of the ceremony, São Paulo had something it had never had before: two restaurants at Michelin’s highest rank, announced on the same night. (g1.globo.com)
