Ferrari 849 Testarossa India Launch
Ferrari is set to debut the 849 Testarossa in India on March 14, with the SF90 Stradale replacement carrying an ex-showroom price of Rs 10.37 crore before options. This launch marks the arrival of a new flagship for Ferrari in one of its fastest-growing markets.
The revival of the "Testarossa" name, meaning "red head" in Italian, is a nod to the iconic 1980s predecessor and the famed 1957 250 Testa Rossa racing car. The original Testarossa, produced from 1984 to 1991, was known for its dramatic Pininfarina design, particularly its long side strakes, and was powered by a 12-cylinder engine. The 849 Testarossa is a significant step up from the SF90 Stradale it replaces, boasting a plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines a twin-turbo V8 with three electric motors. This system generates a combined output of 1,050 cv (1,036 hp), a notable increase from the SF90's 986 hp. This power allows the 849 Testarossa to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under 2.3 seconds and reach a top speed exceeding 330 km/h. Aerodynamic enhancements, including a twin-tail rear concept and active spoiler, generate 915 lbs of downforce at 250 km/h, a 15% improvement in cooling efficiency over the SF90. Ferrari's focus on India is strategic, as the country is considered a promising and growing market for the brand. The launch of a new flagship model highlights the increasing demand for high-performance luxury cars in the region, which is supported by improving road infrastructure. Interestingly, the demographic of Ferrari owners in India is significantly younger than the global average. The average age of an Indian Ferrari owner is around 40, compared to the worldwide average of 51, with prospective buyers being even younger.
