Indian Chef's 15,200km Food Journey
Dhoom Indian Streatery & Bar launched a new "Desi Eats" menu after Chef Prasad's 15,200 km journey across India exploring 12 regional cuisines. The extensive culinary research trip resulted in an authentic menu representing diverse Indian street food traditions.
The "Desi Eats" menu is the 13th new menu for Dhoom Indian Streatery & Bar since its opening in 2018. The 10-course tasting menu was launched on March 4, 2026, after a nine-month research and development period. The dinner menu is priced at £32.95, with a seven-course lunch option available for £19.95. Chef Dhaneshwar Prasad's journey to create the menu involved traveling through 12 different regions of India. He sought out unique and authentic dishes, adapting his personal favorites for Scottish diners. This extensive culinary exploration is a hallmark of Chef Prasad's approach, who undertakes a "reiki," or culinary pilgrimage, before introducing any new dish. The menu features a diverse range of regional specialties. Diners can experience Veg Bhajia from Kolkata, Paneer Tikka Makhanwala from Delhi, and Chowpatty Sev Puri Chaat inspired by Mumbai's beaches. Other highlights include Lamb Laal Maans from Rajasthan and Kokum Fish Curry from the Konkan Coast. One notable dish is the Pesto Lamb Chapli Kebab, a healthier, grilled version of a classic recipe from Lucknow with Afghan influences. The menu also includes a comforting Robibarer Goat Mangshan Jhol from Bengal and concludes with Dal Masoor, a lentil dish dedicated to Prasad's mother. Dhoom, located in Dunfermline, has garnered significant acclaim, including being named Restaurant of the Year at the 2022 Scottish Curry Awards. Chef Prasad himself has received accolades such as Chef of the Year at The Courier Food & Drink Awards. Chef Prasad's passion for authentic Indian cuisine stems from his childhood in northern India, where he would walk nine miles to a school in a village with no electricity or roads. Since moving to Scotland in 2003, he has been involved in the opening of over 50 Indian restaurants.
