Daruma-chan Heads to Museum

A ticketed lecture tied to the exhibition is scheduled for March 29 in the museum’s auditorium; the program runs 10:00–12:00 and is limited to 100 attendees by advance web registration. (kahaku.go.jp) Speakers lined up for that session are curator 北山太樹 (Kitayama Daiki), 加古総合研究所’s 鈴木万里 (Suzuki Mari), and paleontologist 三上智之 (Mikami Tomoyuki), who will deliver three short talks followed by a panel discussion. (kahaku.go.jp) 北山太樹 is listed as the企画・監修 and is identified on the museum page as a research chief in the National Museum of Nature and Science’s Plant Research Department, fungi and algae group. (kahaku.go.jp) The show highlights Kako’s science-focused output—noting more than 60 science-picture-book titles—and the exhibition catalogue "生誕100年記念 かこさとしの科学絵本" is being published April 24 by 主婦の友社 as a tie-in. (books.shufunotomo.co.jp) Organizers say the museum is presenting original materials and rare illustrations (including an original “生命の発生と進化図” noted as a first-time public display for this tour) with special cooperation from the 加古総合研究所. (ehonnavi.net) Separate centennial events have already taken place around Kako’s hometown ties, including a March 1 community festival titled "一緒に遊ぼう だるまちゃんと仲間たち" in Kawasaki’s 古市場第2公園 featuring readings, games and a quiz rally.
