Rainbow Six Gets Solid Snake
Rainbow Six Siege's new "Operation Silent Hunt" just launched, introducing the iconic Solid Snake as a playable operator with unique gadgets and Metal Gear-themed content. The update includes a detection radar, signature pistol, and themed missions, adding fresh tactical options to the enduring shooter.
The arrival of Solid Snake marks a significant crossover for Rainbow Six Siege, bringing more than just a famous face to the tactical shooter. Voiced by the original actor, David Hayter, Snake is a permanent new operator, not a temporary skin, with a 3-speed, 1-health rating designed for aggressive and skillful play. His inclusion is part of a narrative that sees him recruited by another stealth icon already in the game, Sam Fisher (also known as Zero). Snake's loadout introduces unique intel-gathering mechanics to the game's attacking lineup. His primary gadget, the Soliton Radar MKIII, provides a mini-map that reveals the layout of the immediate floor and detects enemy presence. Complementing this is his "On-Site Procurement" ability, which allows him to scavenge secondary gadgets from fallen operators, offering significant tactical flexibility during a round. The Metal Gear Solid collaboration extends beyond the new operator with a full Battle Pass and a limited-time event. Players can unlock cosmetic items that transform other operators into iconic Metal Gear characters, including a Psycho Mantis outfit for Smoke, a Gray Fox skin for Jackal, and a Meryl theme for Ash. A special 4v4 infiltration game mode set on a map inspired by a classic Metal Gear location is also part of the event. This collaboration is the latest in a series of major crossovers for Rainbow Six Siege. The game has previously integrated content from franchises like Tomb Raider, which introduced a Lara Croft elite skin for the operator Ash, and Resident Evil, which saw skins for Leon Kennedy and Jill Valentine. The inclusion of Sam Fisher from Splinter Cell as a playable operator set a precedent for bringing in characters from other major gaming universes. Alongside the new operator, "Operation Silent Hunt" introduces significant updates to existing maps. Villa, Coastline, and Oregon have been "modernized" with improved lighting, updated visuals, and more destructible surfaces to create new lines of sight and strategic possibilities. These changes aim to refresh the competitive experience on these fan-favorite maps. The update also brings new gameplay options for all players. A limited-time 1v1 Arcade playlist allows for head-to-head duels, a departure from the game's typical team-based modes. Additionally, the Ranked map pool will rotate throughout the season, temporarily removing maps like Kanal and Skyscraper to feature the newly modernized ones and others like Emerald Plains.
