Lil Uzi Vert Teases Steampunk Era
Lil Uzi Vert plans to "revolutionize rap" with a new direction for his next project. In a recent reveal, Uzi announced an upcoming steampunk-inspired era, signaling a bold aesthetic and sonic shift for the artist.
In a recent interview with *Dazed* magazine, Lil Uzi Vert declared the need to "change the scene" from the current gothic trend in music and fashion. Their solution is a full-fledged steampunk era, a retrofuturistic style blending 19th-century industrial steam-powered machinery with a futuristic vision. This marks another significant aesthetic evolution for the artist, who is known for creating distinct worlds with each album. For 2020's *Eternal Atake*, Uzi adopted a sci-fi theme complete with visuals of alien abduction and celestial imagery. That project also introduced fans to multiple personas: the aggressive "Baby Pluto," the more sensitive "Renji," and the final form of Lil Uzi Vert himself. The subsequent album, 2023's *Pink Tape*, was a maximalist dive into a fusion of genres including punk rap, rap rock, and even metalcore. The album featured a diverse range of collaborators, from Travis Scott and Nicki Minaj to the Japanese metal band Babymetal and UK rock group Bring Me the Horizon. While steampunk as a musical genre is loosely defined, it often incorporates industrial sounds, dark cabaret, and elements of punk and goth, sometimes fused with hip-hop in a subgenre known as "Chap-Hop." Artists like Professor Elemental have been associated with this style. Uzi's move follows a period in 2025 where they did not sit for any written interviews, making this new direction a deliberate and pronounced return. Although an exact release date for the new project has not been officially announced, Lil Uzi Vert confirmed in the March 2026 *Dazed* interview that an album is planned for this year. When asked directly about a 2026 release, their response was a characteristically ambiguous, "Um, sure."
