Paul Le Roux, born in Zimbabwe in 1972, started as a programmer, creating the encryption software E4M. He is sometimes credited with the open-source TrueCrypt, though he denies involvement. Le Roux's criminal empire included online pharmacies, money laundering, arms trafficking, and even ordering murders. His internet pharmacy at its peak grossed $250 million a year by shipping pain medication to U.S. consumers. He later expanded into drug and weapons dealing with rogue regimes, warlords, terrorists, and street gangs. Le Roux was arrested in Liberia in 2012 and is currently serving a 25-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit murder, money laundering, and trafficking in firearms. Michael Mann is known for his stylized crime dramas such as *Heat* (1995), *Collateral* (2004), and *Public Enemies* (2009). He also executive produced the TV series *Miami Vice*, which he adapted into a 2006 film. Mann previously adapted Elaine Shannon's book *Desperados* into the Emmy-winning miniseries *Drug Wars: The Camarena Story*.
