McLaren's Le Mans Hypercar Goes Public

McLaren is finally offering its Le Mans hypercar to customers for the first time — but there's a catch. The customer version won't feature the same hybrid technology as the race version, making it more accessible but fundamentally different from what races at Le Mans.

This new track machine is born from McLaren's official return to the top class of the FIA World Endurance Championship, slated for 2027. The brand will compete under the Le Mans Daytona h (LMDh) regulations, a cost-effective ruleset requiring manufacturers to use a chassis from one of four approved suppliers. McLaren has partnered with Italian firm Dallara for the chassis of its LMDh race car, joining BMW and Cadillac as Dallara clients. The factory racing effort will be operated by the established United Autosports team, which is co-owned by McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown. The race car will be powered by a bespoke twin-turbo V6 engine paired with a mandatory, spec hybrid system for the rear axle, as required by LMDh rules. In contrast, the customer version, developed under the "Project: Endurance" banner, will feature a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 derived from the Artura, but without the hybrid system, producing an estimated 720 horsepower. This project marks the first major collaboration between McLaren's automotive and racing divisions on a customer car. The non-hybrid track car has been developed in parallel with the WEC racer, but with modifications like adjustable traction control and ABS to make it more accessible for private owners than a pure competition machine. The purchase price includes a comprehensive two-year "arrive-and-drive" support program. Owners will receive professional driver coaching, along with full pit crew and engineering support at events held at world-class circuits. This new hypercar program echoes McLaren's celebrated history at Le Mans, where the McLaren F1 GTR famously won on its debut in 1995. That victory secured the coveted "Triple Crown of Motorsport" for the manufacturer, an achievement they aim to replicate.
