Salesforce CMO: AI Is a Productivity Enhancer

Ariel Kelman, President and CMO of Salesforce, stated that the biggest misconception about AI is that it will replace jobs. He argued that AI should be viewed as a productivity enhancer that automates specific tasks within roles. Kelman said, "You're not going to be replaced by AI, you're going to be replaced by someone who's great at using AI."

- Salesforce's AI strategy is centered on the Einstein 1 Platform, which integrates AI, data, and CRM capabilities to automate tasks and provide predictive insights. A core component is the Einstein GPT Trust Layer, designed to give companies confidence in adopting generative AI by ensuring data privacy through features like secure data retrieval and zero data retention. - For developers and builders, Salesforce offers Einstein 1 Studio, a suite of low-code tools that includes a Copilot Builder, Prompt Builder, and Model Builder. These tools allow users with varying technical skills to customize AI assistants and embed generative AI into their workflows using familiar tools like Apex and Flow, without needing to be a data scientist. - The company is heavily invested in an "agentic AI" framework called Agentforce, which enables companies to build AI agents for specific tasks in sales, customer service, and marketing. In an interview, Ariel Kelman noted that Salesforce's internal use of an SDR agent generated an additional $60 million in annualized pipeline within three months, and a support agent handled nearly 2 million customer conversations. - To bolster its AI capabilities, Salesforce has been on an acquisition spree, purchasing companies like Cimulate for AI-powered e-commerce recommendations, Informatica for data governance, and Regrello for process automation. This strategy aims to build a comprehensive AI stack where data is trusted and workflows are intelligent. - Salesforce is pursuing a multi-platform strategy through a major partnership with Google Cloud, allowing customers to run Salesforce platforms, including Agentforce and Data Cloud, on Google's infrastructure. This collaboration also integrates Google's Gemini AI models into the Salesforce ecosystem, giving customers more choice in the large language models they use. - Kelman has elaborated that the goal of Agentforce is to make every marketing engagement a two-way, human-like conversation, from creating campaigns to qualifying leads. He shared that using an AI agent for automated lead qualification reduced the time it took for salespeople to follow up on leads by 40%.
