OpenAI Raises Record-Breaking $110B

OpenAI just secured a massive $110 billion in private funding, valuing the company at an estimated $730 billion. The round was led by Amazon, Nvidia, and SoftBank. As part of the deal, Amazon Web Services will become the exclusive third-party cloud provider for OpenAI's advanced "Frontier" models in a major strategic partnership.

This record-breaking capital infusion is structured as a strategic alignment with key hardware and cloud providers. Amazon's $50 billion investment is tied to a significant expansion of a previous cloud computing deal, now committing OpenAI to spend an additional $100 billion on AWS over eight years. Nvidia's $30 billion contribution is linked to securing next-generation compute, with OpenAI set to utilize 3 gigawatts of dedicated inference capacity and 2 gigawatts for training on Nvidia's upcoming "Vera Rubin" systems. The partnership with AWS extends beyond cloud credits, establishing a deep technical collaboration. The two companies will co-create a "Stateful Runtime Environment" on Amazon Bedrock. This environment is designed to allow AI agents to maintain context, remember previous interactions, and manage complex, long-running workflows, a significant step beyond current stateless API calls. OpenAI's "Frontier" models, for which AWS is now the exclusive third-party cloud provider, represent the company's most advanced enterprise platform. Launched in early February 2026, Frontier is designed for building and managing teams of AI agents that can operate across a company's internal systems like CRMs and ERPs with shared context and governance. The massive funding is aimed at meeting the surging global demand for AI, which OpenAI CEO Sam Altman states requires a massive scaling of compute, distribution, and capital. The company is experiencing rapid user growth, with over 900 million weekly active users and more than 50 million paying subscribers for products like ChatGPT. This funding round dwarfs previous large private tech investments, including OpenAI's own prior record-setting $40 billion raise in 2025. The new capital and strategic partnerships are intended to solidify OpenAI's infrastructure and accelerate its mission to build what it terms "artificial general intelligence" (AGI) that benefits all of humanity.
