For healthy individuals, it may cause short-term symptoms like high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. The infection, known as listeriosis, poses a more significant threat to certain vulnerable groups. It can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems. For pregnant women, a *Listeria* infection can lead to miscarriages and stillbirths, even if the parent only experiences mild symptoms.
