Madrid Audiovisual Group Launches at Berlinale
The Madrid Audiovisual Cluster launched a new networking event at the Berlin Film Festival's European Film Market. The initiative is designed to bolster Berlin's status as a center for cross-border creative exchange within the film industry.
- The Madrid Audiovisual Cluster was officially established on March 30, 2023, by 59 founding entities with the goal of strengthening the region's audiovisual sector and creating a network of local, national, and international companies. - Madrid is a significant hub for audiovisual production in Spain, hosting over 3,500 companies in the sector and accounting for more than 32% of all audiovisual companies in the country. - In 2025, the city of Madrid hosted the filming of at least 71 feature films and 52 television series, marking a record year for production. - International productions filming in Madrid can access a 30% tax rebate for the first million euros of expenditure, and 25% thereafter, with a maximum rebate of €20 million per production. - The European Film Market (EFM), where the launch event took place, is one of the top three film markets globally, attracting around 10,000 industry professionals, including producers, buyers, and sales agents. - The audiovisual sector contributes approximately 2.6% to the Madrid region's GDP, generating around 29,000 direct jobs. - Major international projects recently filmed in the Madrid region include Wes Anderson's "Asteroid City" and the third season of AMC's "The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon". - The initiative is supported by key institutional partners, including the Madrid City Council and the Community of Madrid, to promote the region as an international production center.
