Fragment Design Teases New Nike Collab
Hiroshi Fujiwara has teased a new all-black Nike Air Liquid Max collaboration with his influential Fragment Design label. The reveal signals another major hype cycle is on the horizon, offering a look into the latest trends in sneaker culture, limited-edition storytelling, and brand heat.
Hiroshi Fujiwara, often called the "godfather of streetwear," has been a long-standing Nike partner. His influence began shaping street culture in the late 1980s, and his relationship with Nike was formalized in 2002 through the elite HTM creative trio, which included legendary designer Tinker Hatfield and then-CEO Mark Parker. The partnership's most legendary release is the 2014 Fragment Design x Air Jordan 1. This sneaker combined the original "Black Toe" and "Royal" colorways and was the first collaboration between Fujiwara's label and Jordan Brand. Its release in limited quantities set the template for hype and high resale value that defines the collaboration. Fragment's design philosophy typically employs a minimalist, "less is more" approach, using subtle details and premium materials to elevate classic silhouettes. The brand's signature double lightning bolt logo is often the only prominent external branding, stamped on the heel of models ranging from the Dunk High and Sock Dart to the Tennis Classic. The aftermarket value for these collaborations is a key part of their story. The 2014 Air Jordan 1, which retailed for $185, was reselling for an average of $744 just days after its release, more than four times its original price. More recent and complex collaborations, like the one with Travis Scott, saw resale prices ranging from $1,500 to over $3,000 in 2023. Fragment's momentum remains strong with a continuous stream of high-heat projects. A recent three-way collaboration with Union LA and Jordan Brand on the Air Jordan 1 revived a classic mashup design and was released in three colorways during February 2026. Beyond retro basketball models, Fujiwara is also applying his touch to Nike's newer, more experimental silhouettes. He has recently teased collaborations on the Nike Mind 001 and Mind 002, a collection focused on mental and physical wellness, scheduled for a Spring 2026 release.
