Matt and Ross Duffer are leaving Netflix for an exclusive four-year deal at Paramount after their current pact ends in April 2026. (paramount.com) Paramount said the brothers will create, write, direct and produce films, television series and streaming projects for Paramount Pictures, Paramount Television and the company’s direct-to-consumer division. The studio said the deal is built in part around their plan to make large-scale theatrical movies. (paramount.com) Deadline reported the agreement runs four years and centers on feature films, television and streaming, with the brothers moving over from Netflix once that April 2026 end date arrives. Variety separately reported Paramount had been in advanced talks with the pair before the deal was finalized. (deadline.com, variety.com) The move comes as “Stranger Things,” Netflix’s signature Duffer Brothers franchise, heads toward its fifth and final season. Netflix is still releasing “The Boroughs,” a Duffer-produced supernatural mystery series, on May 21, 2026. (deadline.com, thewrap.com) Paramount’s pickup also reunites the brothers with Cindy Holland, the former Netflix executive who helped greenlight “Stranger Things” and was reported by Variety to be part of Paramount’s new leadership team. The Hollywood Reporter said the signing was part of a broader talent push under Paramount’s post-Skydance leadership. (variety.com, hollywoodreporter.com) Paramount did not disclose financial terms in its announcement. The Wrap reported that Paramount, Netflix and the Duffer Brothers did not immediately comment beyond the formal announcement when trade reports first surfaced. (paramount.com, thewrap.com) In their statement, the brothers said they were “thrilled” to join Paramount and pointed to film, television and streaming as the scope of the partnership. After nearly a decade defined by Netflix, their next chapter starts on the studio lot in 2026. (paramount.com)
