Pokémon Pokopia Gets Developer Tour
Players of *Pokémon Pokopia* can now tour the developer's "Cloud Island" — a new in-game feature requiring a special code and Nintendo Switch Online subscription. The update gives players an insider's look at the creative process and world-building behind Pokopia, which launched this week exclusively on Switch 2 to widespread praise.
*Pokémon Pokopia* is a life-simulation spin-off co-developed by Game Freak and Omega Force, a studio of Koei Tecmo. The partnership was initiated by *Pokémon Scarlet and Violet* director Shigeru Ohmori, who conceived the idea of a game centered around creating Pokémon habitats. Omega Force was brought on due to their experience with the sandbox genre, particularly with their work on *Dragon Quest Builders 2*. The game, which launched worldwide on March 5, 2026, has received widespread critical acclaim. It currently stands as the highest-rated *Pokémon* game on the review aggregator Metacritic, surpassing the previously top-ranked *Pokémon Y*. Critics have praised it as one of the best games of 2026, highlighting its fresh take on the franchise. In *Pokémon Pokopia*, players take on the role of a Ditto that transforms into a human-like form. The core gameplay involves shaping the world, which is composed of blocks, to create suitable habitats to attract and befriend some of the 300 Pokémon included in the game. This gameplay loop has drawn comparisons to titles like *Minecraft* and *Animal Crossing*. The "Cloud Islands" feature functions as a cooperative multiplayer sandbox, separate from the main single-player world. Up to four players can build and explore a shared island together. A key aspect of this feature is that the island can remain active even if the host is offline, allowing for persistent collaborative projects. Accessing the special developer's "Cloud Island" requires more than just the special code. Players must first purchase the "Mysterious Goggles" item from the in-game Pokémon Center PC store. This specific island is a view-only experience, designed to give players inspiration for their own creations.
