Art Basel Reveals 2026 Exhibitor List
Art Basel has announced 290 galleries from 43 countries will participate in its flagship 2026 fair in Basel, Switzerland. The fair runs June 18-21 with VIP previews June 16-17, featuring 21 galleries making their debut. The event positions itself as the premier destination for collectors and contemporary art enthusiasts.
- The flagship fair in Basel was founded in 1970 by gallerists Ernst Beyeler, Trudl Bruckner, and Balz Hilt; the inaugural event featured 90 galleries from 10 countries and drew more than 16,000 visitors. - Beyond the main "Galleries" sector, the fair is organized into distinct sections, including "Unlimited" for monumental-scale installations, "Parcours" for site-specific works displayed throughout the city of Basel, and "Statements," which focuses on emerging artists. - The Swiss event is one of four annual Art Basel fairs, with others held in Miami Beach (since 2002), Hong Kong (since 2013), and Paris (since 2022). A new edition is scheduled to debut in Doha, Qatar, in February 2026. - In 2023, the Art Basel show in Switzerland attracted over 82,000 visitors. Its sister fair in Miami Beach welcomed a similar number in 2025, with attendance topping 80,000. - The main fair serves as an anchor for a city-wide "art week" that includes numerous independent satellite fairs running concurrently, such as Liste Art Fair Basel, Volta, and Photo Basel. - Art Basel is considered a key barometer of the global art market's health and a major economic engine for its host cities, significantly boosting the hospitality, transportation, and retail sectors.
