Carrowmore centre reopens

Ireland’s Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery visitor centre reopened after a €1.5m upgrade, improving interpretation at one of the country’s oldest tomb sites. The refreshed centre aims to deepen visitor engagement with prehistoric burial monuments and reopened in time for April 2026 visits. (rte.ie)

The upgraded centre was officially opened by Ministers of State Kevin “Boxer” Moran and Christopher O’Sullivan. (gov.ie) (gov.ie) The investment was delivered through a partnership between Fáilte Ireland, the Office of Public Works and the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage under the Tourism Capital Investment Programme. (constructionireland.ie) (constructionireland.ie) Carrowmore contains the remains of more than 35 passage tombs, parts of a Neolithic complex built almost 6,000 years ago and recognised as the oldest and largest concentration of such tombs in Ireland. (heritageireland.ie) (heritageireland.ie) The Office of Public Works extended the 2025 visitor season to 3 December 2025 to allow additional access while works completed, and Heritage Ireland lists the 2026 season opening window as 12 March to 4 November 2026.
