Wix Launches Website Builder Inside ChatGPT

Website development platform Wix has launched an app directly inside of ChatGPT, according to CEO Avishai Abrahami. The integration aims to allow users to create and manage a Wix website seamlessly through conversational prompts within the AI chatbot, further blurring the lines between AI assistants and functional software applications.

This move is part of Wix's broader strategy to integrate AI deeply into its platform; the company first introduced a form of AI for website design called Artificial Design Intelligence (ADI) back in 2016. The new integration runs on a platform called Wix Harmony, a hybrid AI-powered editor that combines conversational, prompt-based website creation with traditional drag-and-drop controls for finer adjustments. The AI agent within Harmony, named Aria, can generate pages, text, and images based on user commands. The global AI-powered website builder market is projected to grow significantly, with forecasts estimating it will reach over $17 billion by 2035, up from approximately $2.69 billion in 2025. This represents a compound annual growth rate of over 20%. North America currently holds the largest market share at nearly 43%. Wix holds a dominant position in the broader website builder market with a 4.2% share among sites with a known content management system, second only to Shopify among dedicated builders. Upon the announcement, Wix's stock (NASDAQ:WIX) saw an increase, reflecting positive investor sentiment. Analysts from BofA Securities reiterated a "Buy" rating for Wix, noting the seamlessness of the ChatGPT integration and viewing it as a strategic move to attract high-intent customers. The integration is seen as a way for Wix to broaden its reach and convert users directly within the popular AI chat interface. This partnership places Wix in direct competition with other website builders that are also leveraging AI. Competitors like Squarespace and Hostinger offer their own AI-driven website creation tools. However, Wix's approach is described as a more comprehensive suite of AI tools, including logo makers and text generators, differentiating it from competitors who may offer faster but less customizable AI solutions. Looking ahead, Wix's product roadmap indicates a continued focus on AI beyond website generation. Planned features for 2026 include an AI-assisted app builder with GitHub integration, an "Automations Agent" that can build workflows from text descriptions, and a "Wix Smart Chat" for site visitors. CEO Avishai Abrahami has stated that 2026 marks a "defining new chapter for Wix as we enter an era of the internet that is evolving exponentially faster through AI advancements." The company's investment in AI is also reshaping its internal structure, with a vision for AI to generate most of the production code in the future. This would shift the role of human engineers away from line-by-line coding and more towards system design, architecture, and reliability. This strategy is supported by recent acquisitions, including that of Base44, an AI-powered code generation platform.
