Broadway Across Canada Announces New Season

Broadway Across Canada revealed its new season including & Juliet and more musicals coming to Canadian venues. Meanwhile, Miami and Broward Center are previewing major hits like Death Becomes Her, The Outsiders, and Hamilton. David Byrne's Here Lies Love is selling out in L.A. with a reimagined production drawing major audience interest.

Broadway Across Canada's 2024-2025 season will bring a variety of high-profile musicals to stages across the country, with specific lineups announced for cities including Vancouver and Ottawa. The presenter operates in numerous Canadian cities, including Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal, and Winnipeg, bringing touring Broadway productions to a wide audience. The musical "& Juliet" reimagines Shakespeare's tragedy, posing what might have happened if Juliet didn't die. The story follows Juliet on a journey of self-discovery to Paris, set to a soundtrack of pop anthems from songwriter Max Martin, known for hits by Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, and Ariana Grande. The show, penned by an Emmy-winning writer from "Schitt's Creek," has received accolades, including three Olivier Awards for its West End production. In Fort Lauderdale, the Broward Center's 2026-2027 season will feature the new musical "Death Becomes Her," based on the 1992 film. This production, recommended for audiences 12 and up, is a dark comedy about two rival actresses who take a potion for eternal youth. The musical is directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Christopher Gattelli. Also heading to the Broward Center in May 2027 is "The Outsiders," a new musical that won the Tony Award for Best Musical. Adapted from the novel by S.E. Hinton and the Francis Ford Coppola film, the story is set in 1967 Tulsa, Oklahoma, and follows the conflict between the Greasers and the Socs. The production features a book by Adam Rapp and Justin Levine, with music and lyrics by Jamestown Revival and Justin Levine. David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's musical "Here Lies Love" chronicles the rise and fall of former Philippine First Lady Imelda Marcos. The recent Los Angeles production at the Mark Taper Forum was a reimagined version of the Broadway show, which had famously transformed its theater into a disco nightclub. The L.A. staging, while still energetic, dialed back the immersive, standing-room-only concept for a more traditional, though still dynamic, theatrical experience.
