India launches SabhaSaar AI minutes tool
India’s Ministry of Panchayati Raj showcased #SabhaSaar, an AI tool that converts Gram Sabha audio/video into structured minutes and summaries announced. It’s a concrete example of automating meeting capture to accelerate documentation and reduce reliance on single‑person note takers in local government.
Launched on 14 August 2025, SabhaSaar’s rollout was announced by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj in an Independence Day launch. (sansad.in) The initial operational rollout covered all 1,194 Gram Panchayats in Tripura for Special Gram Sabhas on 15 August 2025, with the platform subsequently made available to all States and Union Territories. (pib.gov.in) The August press release described integration with the BHASHINI translation service and support for 13 Indian languages at launch, while a later Ministry summary noted the platform is linked with Bhashini to work in 14 languages as the programme scales. (pib.gov.in) Adoption metrics supplied to Parliament show 1,15,115 Gram Panchayats had used SabhaSaar as of 04 February 2026, representing roughly 42.86% of the country’s 2.68 lakh Gram Panchayats. (sansad.in) Operational controls include a workflow that lets Panchayat functionaries review, validate and edit draft minutes, and the Ministry has issued Standard Operating Procedures, user guidelines and training sessions for recording infrastructure and usage. (sansad.in) The AI and cloud workload for SabhaSaar runs on the IndiaAI Compute Portal under the IndiaAI Mission (MeitY), and the government states all processing and storage occur within government-controlled systems with no sharing to external third-party service providers.
