Virginia Beach Voter Registration Office to Relocate
The City of Virginia Beach's Voter Registration Office will relocate to a new, more accessible location before the next elections. The move is intended to improve services and convenience for residents and encourage greater participation in the electoral process. The new office will be located near the Shore Drive and Mount Trashmore area.
- The new office is located at 500 Studio Drive, near Independence Boulevard and Mount Trashmore Park. - To facilitate the move, the office will be closed to the public from 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 18, and will reopen at the new location on Monday, Feb. 23. - According to Virginia Beach Director of Elections Christine Lewis, the new, purpose-designed facility will improve voter access, particularly for those voting curbside, early in-person, or by mail. - The relocation allows for the secure consolidation of all voting equipment and ballots into a single location. - A March 2023 report from the City of Virginia Beach Internal Auditor's Office found the previous office space to be "inadequate for efficient operations," noting that staff and operations were dispersed across four separate buildings. - The previous location at the Municipal Center will no longer offer any election-related services; all activities, including early voting and candidate filing, will now take place at 500 Studio Drive. - The City Council has also passed new rules prohibiting non-governmental signs at the new Studio Drive location to regulate campaign displays. - All phone numbers and email addresses for the Voter Registration and Elections Office will remain the same after the move.
