East Bay Man Missing After Fishing Trip

A search is underway for Shahanur Alam, a 46-year-old East Bay man last seen near Mountain House. If you travel or hike in the area, stay alert for updates and report any information to the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office.

Shahanur Alam, 46, was last seen near West Grant Line Road and North Midway Road, close to Mountain House in eastern Alameda County. He told his wife he would return by noon on Saturday, March 7, but never made it home. A friend searched for him when he didn't return but couldn't find him. Alam is described as an Indian man, 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighing 165 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes, and prescription glasses. He is clean-shaven, but his clothing at the time of his disappearance is unknown. He is believed to have his wallet and cellphone with him. The Alameda County Sheriff's Office asks anyone with information to contact them at 510-667-7721 or their local law enforcement agency. The area near Mountain House is a popular fishing spot. Anglers have reported catching largemouth bass, striped bass, and rainbow trout in the area. The Alameda County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Unit (ALCO SAR) is comprised of volunteers. ALCO SAR handles over 20 searches each year for missing hikers, hunters, children, and others. Their K9 teams are certified in various disciplines, including area search and tracking.
