Yamaha Exits California for Georgia
Yamaha is leaving California after 50 years, citing "structural reforms" and the advantages of red states FoxNews, adding to the blue-state exodus.
Yamaha's move to Kennesaw, Georgia, will occur in phases, starting at the end of 2026 and continuing through 2028. This involves relocating corporate and financial functions from their long-time home in Cypress, California. The company has been in Cypress since 1979. The relocation is part of Yamaha's "structural reforms" to improve profitability amid rising costs and a shifting market environment. Yamaha aims to improve asset efficiency and increase profitability in the U.S. by consolidating operations in Georgia. They also intend to take advantage of their property's equity by selling their 25.1-acre California campus. Yamaha has been gradually shifting its U.S. operations to Georgia for decades. The Marine Business moved to Kennesaw in 1999, followed by the Motorsports Business in 2019. The move will consolidate all of Yamaha's core U.S. operations under one base. The departure impacts approximately 250 corporate and financial services employees and will likely affect California's job market and local tax base. Yamaha will lease back certain facilities in California to ensure business operations are not disrupted during the transition.
