Nuggets Sign David Roddy
Denver Nuggets announced the signing of David Roddy and release of Tamar Bates to bolster depth for their playoff run. Aaron Gordon is expected to return Friday, providing a needed boost to their frontcourt rotation.
David Roddy, a 2022 first-round draft pick, joins the Nuggets after spending the 2025-26 season with the Raptors 905 in the G League. He was originally selected 23rd overall by the Memphis Grizzlies and has had stints with several NBA teams including the Suns, Hawks, 76ers, and Rockets. His most notable NBA action came with the Grizzlies, where he averaged 7.4 points and 3.3 rebounds over 118 games. After a trade to Phoenix in February 2024, his role diminished significantly, averaging just 1.3 points in 17 appearances for the Suns. The move comes at the expense of Tamar Bates, who was on a two-way contract. Bates's rookie season was cut short in December due to surgery for a fracture in his left foot. Before his injury, the undrafted guard from Missouri was performing impressively for the Nuggets' G League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Gold. Bates was averaging 19.6 points per game with efficient shooting splits of 55% from the field and 44.2% from three-point range in 12 games. Under his new two-way contract, Roddy can be active for up to 11 of the Nuggets' remaining regular-season games. However, he will not be eligible to participate in the playoffs.
