Long Weekend Opens in Houston
Ranch-inspired neighborhood restaurant Long Weekend has opened to the public in Houston. The eatery aims to create a relaxed, welcoming space with comfort-forward dishes, reflecting the growing trend toward 'home away from home' dining experiences.
The new eatery is a family affair, launched by husband-and-wife team Paige and Andrew Alvis. The concept is deeply personal, inspired by Andrew's childhood weekends spent on his family's ranch, which revolved around trail rides, campfire stories, and communal meals. This is the first restaurant for the couple; Andrew is a commercial real estate developer and Paige is a former public accountant. Located in the Lazybrook/Timbergrove area, Long Weekend takes over the former King's Bierhaus and Egghaus spaces at 2044 E. TC Jester Blvd. The venue boasts a significant footprint, with 8,000 square feet of indoor dining and an expansive 20,000-square-foot outdoor area. The location is strategically situated near the TC Jester Hike and Bike Trails. The kitchen is helmed by Executive Chef German Mosquera, a veteran of the Houston food scene with experience at restaurants like Verdine and Café Brasil. The menu focuses on wood-fired cooking, utilizing a custom-built kitchen with a rotisserie, open hearth, vault smoker, and a cherry-wood-fired pizza oven. Diners can expect cowboy-inspired comfort food, including dishes like an elk burger, chicken-fried wagyu steak, and quail and bacon jalapeño poppers. For large groups, a "Cowboy Cookout" platter is available for $240, featuring a Texas wagyu tomahawk steak and a variety of sides. The restaurant also includes a separate café that opens early, serving breakfast tacos, pastries, and locally roasted coffee. The space is designed to be family-friendly, with what the restaurant claims is the largest outdoor play area in Houston. The outdoor "Yard" includes a state-of-the-art playground, an active stream with fish, a stage for live music, fire pits, and numerous TVs for watching sports. For kids, there is also a dedicated arts-and-crafts area called the Creative Canyon within the café.
