Mumbai’s suburban rail network is running under a Sunday megablock on April 12, with maintenance work disrupting Central, Harbour and Western line services for hours. (mid-day.com) On Central Railway’s Main line, the block is on the up and down slow lines between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Vidyavihar from 10:55 a.m. to 3:55 p.m. Down slow trains leaving Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus between 10:48 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. are being diverted to the fast line and stopping at Byculla, Parel, Dadar, Matunga, Sion and Kurla. (mid-day.com) Up slow services from Ghatkopar between 10:19 a.m. and 3:52 p.m. are also being diverted to the fast line between Vidyavihar and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. Those trains are stopping at Kurla, Sion, Matunga, Dadar, Parel and Byculla before returning to the slow corridor. (mid-day.com) On the Harbour line, services between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Bandra or Chunabhatti are suspended from 11:10 a.m. to 4:40 p.m. Multiple Harbour services from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus to Vashi, Belapur, Panvel, Bandra and Goregaon, and return services from those stations, are also cancelled across the late morning and afternoon. (mid-day.com) Central Railway said special trains will run between Panvel and Kurla Platform 8 during the block. Harbour passengers are also being allowed to use Main line and Western Railway routes between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. (mid-day.com) On Western Railway, a separate five-hour jumbo block is in place on the up and down fast lines between Santacruz and Goregaon from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Fast suburban services are being diverted to the slow lines during that window. (mid-day.com) Western Railway said some suburban trains are cancelled, and some Borivali and Andheri services are running only up to Goregaon on the Harbour line. The railway said detailed train-wise changes are available with station masters across the suburban section. (mid-day.com) Railways schedule these Sunday blocks to do work that is harder to fit into weekday peak traffic, including track maintenance, signalling work and overhead equipment checks. For April 12, the listed jobs include track alignment, signalling and overhead wire adjustment across the affected corridors. (lokmattimes.com) No block is scheduled on the Trans-Harbour or Uran lines, according to the published April 12 operating plan. For riders on the three affected corridors, the practical message is narrower service, more diversions and longer waits through the middle of Sunday. (lokmattimes.com)
