Demna's Gucci Introduces "Guccimaxxing" Streetwear Trend

Demna's Fall 2026 collection for Gucci introduced "Guccimaxxing"—a hyper-modern mix of skinny jeans, oversized biceps, and faux fur dubbed "Fakemink." The Milan Fashion Week show is already influencing street style globally as Demna aims to inject fresh cultural relevance into the label. The concept is making waves in the streetwear scene and bridging runway to real-life fashion.

Demna's appointment to Gucci in March 2025 followed a transformative decade as the creative director for Balenciaga, where he was known for his provocative and street-style-infused approach to the historic Parisian house. He succeeded Sabato De Sarno, marking another chapter in Gucci's search for a strong creative lead after Alessandro Michele's departure in 2023. Before his time at Balenciaga, the Georgian designer co-founded the highly influential and disruptive luxury streetwear collective Vetements in 2014 with his brother Guram. The brand quickly gained notoriety for its deconstructionist style and for elevating everyday clothing items into high-fashion statements. Demna is a graduate of Antwerp's Royal Academy of Fine Arts and honed his skills at Maison Martin Margiela and Louis Vuitton before launching his own label. His design philosophy often challenges conventional notions of luxury and beauty, sometimes described as an "ugly-chic" aesthetic. His personal history has deeply influenced his work; born in Soviet Georgia in 1981, he became a refugee during the Georgian Civil War. This background is often reflected in his collections' focus on social uniforms, post-Soviet aesthetics, and the culture of the street.
