Sierra Gold sets U.S. mark

The Sierra Gold Track Club broke an American record this weekend, signaling deepening talent in local club distance racing. The achievement was highlighted as part of a record weekend for community running clubs (theunion.com).

Sierra Gold’s “A” quartet set the American mark in the men’s 80–84 4x400 relay at the USATF Pacific Reno Indoor Championships on Jan. 31, 2026. (pausatf.org) The four runners listed on the results were John Darlington, Bill Wilson, Frank Seman and Al Shook, and meet entries show their 4x400 performance recorded as 6:58.24. (athletic.net) That performance was one of at least five American records posted at the Reno indoor meet, which combined USATF Pacific and Masters West/Northwest region competition. (pausatf.org) Sierra Gold is based in Nevada City and lists practices at Nevada Union High School and Bear River High School, with Patti Baker named as club president on the team website. (sierragoldtrackfield.org) Meet result files show Sierra Gold entered multiple relay quartets at the Jan. 31 meet — another Sierra Gold 4x400 appears on the results at 6:34.26 — illustrating the club’s depth across age divisions. (athletic.net) USATF and USATF Masters maintain the American and masters relay record lists that will formalize and ratify marks from meets such as Reno’s indoor championships. (usatf.org) The Reno-Sparks Convention Center’s Mondo indoor track, which hosted the meet, is one of only three World‑Athletics‑certified indoor tracks on the U.S. West Coast. (visitrenotahoe.com)
