Chicago's Hogsalt Opens First Paris Restaurant

Hogsalt Hospitality, the Chicago-based group behind Au Cheval, has opened its first international restaurant in Paris, named Renommée. The move brings a high-profile American restaurant operator into the competitive Parisian dining scene.

Renommée is located at 95 Rue Saint-Honoré in the 1st arrondissement, taking over a 200-year-old storefront near landmarks like the Louvre and the Bourse de Commerce. The restaurant aims for a historic French feel with influences from old New York and Chicago-style hospitality. The menu mixes French classics like sole meunière and escargots de Bourgogne with American staples. Notably, it includes a version of Au Cheval's famed griddled double cheeseburger, listed on the menu as “West Village.” The interior design, inspired by Hogsalt's New York establishment 4 Charles Prime Rib, evokes a romanticized, between-the-wars Paris with wood paneling, antique paintings, and leather banquettes. Downstairs, a cozy, red-decked cocktail lounge called Maude's Lounge operates in a speakeasy style. Hogsalt Hospitality, founded by Brendan Sodikoff, is known for creating transportive and atmospheric dining experiences with a focus on classic dishes executed at a high level. The group's portfolio includes popular Chicago and New York spots like Bavette's, Gilt Bar, and Armitage Alehouse. The original Au Cheval in Chicago, opened in 2012, gained a cult following and national acclaim for its cheeseburger, often cited as one of the best in America by outlets like The Food Network and Bon Appétit. This reputation creates significant anticipation for its Parisian debut.
