United Bank for Africa said it graduated 720 people from its management training program in Lagos and moved more than 300 contract workers into full-time jobs. (citybusinessnews.com) The bank said the April 10, 2026 ceremony covered Cohorts 19 and 20 of its Graduate Management Acceleration Programme. Group Managing Director Oliver Alawuba said Cohort 19 had 306 participants from several African countries and Cohort 20 had 414 Nigerians. (guardian.ng) Tony Elumelu, the group chairman, said at the event that more than 300 of the graduates had been working inside the United Bank for Africa system as contract staff before being converted to permanent employees. City Business News and other Nigerian outlets reported the remarks from the Lagos ceremony. (citybusinessnews.com) The program is United Bank for Africa’s in-house pipeline for early-career bankers and managers. On its careers pages, the bank says its academy uses classroom, online and off-site training and awards certificates after trainees complete the modules. (ubagroup.com) United Bank for Africa is large enough that its hiring programs can shape careers across several markets at once. The bank says it operates in 20 African countries and also has operations or offices in the United States, the United Kingdom, France and the United Arab Emirates. (ubagroup.com) The bank and local news reports framed the latest intake as part of a longer expansion of the program. A 2025 United Bank for Africa release said more than 1,000 trainees graduated in one Lagos class, while April 2026 reports said the initiative now has more than 5,000 alumni. (ubagroup.com, dailypost.ng) That scale sits inside a much bigger bank. United Bank for Africa says it serves more than 45 million customers across its network. (ubagroup.com) The immediate outcome from this cycle was not only training certificates but payroll changes. The public message from the ceremony was that the program ended with named cohorts graduating and hundreds of workers moving from contract status to full employment. (guardian.ng)
