H Mart to Open Largest U.S. Store in Fremont
The popular Korean supermarket chain H Mart is set to open its largest U.S. location in Fremont, California. While the opening date has not yet been announced, the massive new store will cater to the region's growing demand for Asian and international food products.
The new 100,000-square-foot, two-story H Mart will be located in the Pacific Commons Shopping Center, taking over a former Kohl's building at 43782 Christy St. This project represents the largest single investment in the company's history. This Fremont location is the first of a new "multi-level prototype" for the chain, featuring an expansive food hall with fast-casual and sit-down restaurants, a bar, and entertainment offerings. The goal is to create a community destination that goes beyond a traditional grocery store experience. The choice of Fremont is strategic, targeting a significant demographic. The city's population is nearly 64% Asian, providing a strong customer base for the Korean supermarket's wide array of Asian food products. Founded in Woodside, Queens, in 1982, H Mart has grown to over 97 stores across the United States. The Fremont store will be the company's fourth location in the Bay Area, joining stores in San Francisco, Dublin, and two in San Jose. Construction on the new Fremont store is expected to begin in late 2026, though a specific opening date has not yet been announced by the company. Fremont Mayor Raj Salwan has lauded the project as a "transformative investment" and a strategic reuse of a large vacant retail space.
