FreightWise Hires CTO for AI Push

Logistics technology firm FreightWise has appointed Chris Haarmeyer as its new Chief Technology Officer. The hire is part of a multi-year strategy to expand the company's artificial intelligence capabilities within its transportation management platforms.

The new CTO, Chris Haarmeyer, brings extensive experience in the transportation management system (TMS) sector. His career includes leadership roles at 3Gtms, a senior position at Oracle overseeing development for its own transportation management software, and time at supply chain software firm Manugistics. This leadership change follows FreightWise's significant 2023 acquisition of the Kuebix TMS platform from Trimble. The company has stated its multi-year strategy involves embedding more artificial intelligence into both the core FreightWise platform and the newly acquired Kuebix system. The push toward AI is a major trend in the logistics industry, which is projected to be a market worth over $15 billion in 2024. For transportation management, AI is used to automate complex tasks that were previously manual, such as freight invoice auditing and carrier selection. Practically, this means using AI algorithms to analyze real-time data for optimizing shipping routes, considering factors like traffic and weather to reduce delays and fuel costs. AI can also predict demand, prevent stockouts, and manage warehouse operations more efficiently.
