The Earth Summit this week turned Oakland into a showcase for circular fashion, with clothing swaps, repairs and panels on how to keep goods in use longer. (thecommons.earth) Commons and ThredUp scheduled the summit for April 20 and 21 at ThredUp headquarters in Oakland, with a Circularity Fair on Monday and a Main Stage program on Tuesday. Tickets ranged from $5 to $40, and organizers also offered a livestream option for the April 21 sessions. (thecommons.earth) The Monday fair invited attendees to bring clothes to swap and items to repair, while Tuesday’s program promised discussions with leaders from fashion, finance, technology, food, policy, art and advocacy. The speaker list included Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee, ThredUp Chief Strategy Officer Alon Rotem and Washington Post journalist Michael Coren. (thecommons.earth) The event landed inside San Francisco Climate Week, a regional calendar running April 18 through April 26, 2026, with most programs held in person around the Bay Area. SF Climate Week’s public schedule listed the Earth Summit as part of that lineup. (sfclimateweek.org, sfclimateweek.org) San Francisco’s public agencies stretched Earth Day into a longer Earth Month push. The San Francisco Environment Department said April marks 30 years of climate action in the city and posted a week of related events, including youth programming, repair clinics and bioblitzes. (sfenvironment.org) That broader schedule started with the city’s Earth Day Festival and Green Business Expo at Yerba Buena Gardens on April 18, a free kickoff for SF Climate Week with local green businesses, live music, food and educational activities. The department said the event was presented with the Yerba Buena Gardens Conservancy and Climatebase. (sfenvironment.org) The same city calendar shows a City Nature Challenge bioblitz at Yerba Buena Island on April 24, a citywide City Nature Challenge event later that day, and another bioblitz at Brotherhood Way on April 26. It also lists a Climate Action Youth Summit on April 24 and a clothing repair clinic at the Chinatown-Him Mark Lai branch library that afternoon. (sfenvironment.org) San Francisco Environment said its repair-clinic program is expanding this year, with 21 clothing and bike repair clinics scheduled for 2026 after four years of rising demand. The agency said the clinics are meant to reduce textile waste and normalize repair instead of disposal. (sfenvironment.org, sfenvironment.org) Earth Day itself remains fixed on April 22, but Bay Area organizers have increasingly treated it as a week- or month-long series of events. This year’s Earth Summit fit that model by tying fashion, reuse and public programming into the same Earth Month calendar. (earthday.org, sfenvironment.org)
