Free sustainability short course

British Council launched a free short course called 'Learning for Sustainable Futures' this week — designed to give students and lifelong learners frameworks on sustainability perspectives. The course is open now and could pair well with finance or ESG learning paths. (x.com)

The course is delivered by the University of Edinburgh in partnership with Learning for Sustainability Scotland and the British Council. (shortcourses.ed.ac.uk) Coursera lists the offering as five modules at Beginner level and recommends roughly 10 hours of study per week. (coursera.org) Both Coursera and the University of Edinburgh schedule a facilitated run from 30 March to 3 May 2026. (coursera.org) The University of Edinburgh short-courses page breaks the syllabus into weekly topics: Examining Thinking; Values and Frameworks; Systems and Connections; Moving to Action; and Futures Thinking. (shortcourses.ed.ac.uk) The Edinburgh page lists captioning in multiple languages (Arabic, Chinese (Simplified), Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean and others) and Coursera notes the course is available in 22 languages. (shortcourses.ed.ac.uk) Learning for Sustainability Scotland’s communications report prior runs attracted between about 17,000 and more than 20,000 learners from roughly 160 countries across past iterations. (learningforsustainabilityscotland.org) A companion two-week run — “Learning for a Sustainable Future: Live at COP30” — is offered as a separate short course and is advertised with an official completion certificate from the University of Edinburgh in partnership with Learning for Sustainability Scotland and the British Council.
