EV Safety Warning: Child Locked In

A Fremont-area family's baby was trapped in a Cadillac Lyriq EV for 27 minutes after a sudden electrical failure disabled remote unlock features [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsV49bgUqDk].

This isn't an isolated incident, as electrical issues have been reported by other Lyriq owners. Some have experienced charging problems, sudden shutdowns, and display malfunctions. GM issued a recall in June 2025 for over 41,000 Lyriqs due to a software error that could cause the instrument cluster to go blank while driving. Other recalls have addressed brake system defects and inaccurate owner's manual instructions. It's important to know how to manually unlock the doors and disengage the child safety locks in case of electrical failure. The Cadillac Lyriq owner's manual and the virtual Controls App provide information on how to use the child safety locks. Consider keeping a physical key accessible as a backup, especially when traveling with children. Some Lyriq models allow you to remove the mechanical key from the remote key.
