A wave of multi-billion-dollar investments is reshaping luxury tourism across the Caribbean and Central America, with a pronounced shift away from mass-market offerings toward exclusive, sustainable, and culturally integrated resorts. This transformation is backed by a confident outlook from hotel executives and investors, who anticipate continued growth in hotel performance in 2026 compared to 2025. The region's tourism sector has shown resilience, with international arrivals in the first half of 2025 slightly exceeding the same period in 2024. The Dominican Republic is a major hub for this expansion, with one of the most significant projects being a $160 million resort in Punta Cana featuring 200 rooms, 325 residences, and a golf course. In Turks and Caicos, Beaches Resorts recently opened its Treasure Beach Village, a US$150-million expansion that adds new oceanfront suites and six new dining concepts, including the brand's signature steakhouse. This new generation of luxury is deeply intertwined with sustainability. In Grenada, new eco-resorts are partnering with local farmers and artisans. Across the region, there is a push for green certifications and community-driven tourism models, with some resorts in St. Lucia featuring smart-city technology and solar power. This move towards eco-luxury is a strategic response to a growing demand from affluent travelers for environmentally conscious and authentic experiences. The integration of local culture is central to this new chapter. The Treasure Beach Village in Turks and Caicos, for example, showcases commissioned works from local artists, with murals celebrating the islands' flora and fauna. In Barbados, new culinary initiatives include a chef residency series that brings in acclaimed Caribbean chefs to create menus with locally sourced ingredients.
