Cobolli Pushes for Third Title
Flavio Cobolli is pushing for his third title in a competitive final against Frances Tiafoe, taking the first set 7-6(4). The 21-year-old Italian is building serious momentum after his breakthrough season, with this potential win marking another major step in his rapid rise through the ATP ranks.
This victory in Acapulco marks Flavio Cobolli's first-ever ATP title on a hard court. His previous two titles, an ATP 250 in Bucharest and an ATP 500 in Hamburg, were both won on clay in 2025. The win over Tiafoe was Cobolli's first against the American and propels him into the world's top 15 for the first time. He is projected to rise from No. 20 to a new career-high of No. 15 in the ATP rankings. For Frances Tiafoe, this loss marks his third defeat in an ATP 500 final. The American has struggled in championship matches, winning just three of the eleven finals he has contested in his career. Both finalists survived grueling semifinal matches to reach the championship. Cobolli battled back from being down 3-1 in the final set against Miomir Kecmanovic, while Tiafoe had to save match points in his all-American duel with Brandon Nakashima. This title represents a significant turnaround for the 23-year-old Italian in the 2026 season. After a slow start to the year that included a string of losses, he reached the semifinals at the Delray Beach Open before this victory in Mexico.
