IPL Prize Money Soars 20% for T20 World Cup
The ICC's prize pool for the T20 World Cup 2026 increased to $125 crore (₹3.5 million), up 20% since 2024 according to a recent video, with India's victory netting the BCCI $3 million.
India's T20 World Cup victory in 2026 earned them $3 million from a total prize pool of $13.5 million. New Zealand, as runners-up, received $1.6 million. The ICC distributes the prize money based on team standings. Teams finishing between fifth and eighth place each get $270,000, while those ranked ninth through twelfth receive $135,000 each. Teams ranked thirteenth to twentieth each get $112,500. Each match win during the tournament earned a team $31,154. The BCCI announced a cash reward of ₹131 crore for Team India following their T20 World Cup 2026 win. This is in addition to the $3 million (₹27.48 crore) from the ICC. The BCCI's reward is reportedly six times more than the IPL winners receive. The BCCI is projected to earn nearly 40% of the ICC's revenue between 2024 and 2027, approximately ₹2,079 crore. This is due to India generating over 70% of cricket's global revenue. Encounters between India and Pakistan are estimated to have a commercial value of around Rs 1,800 crore to Rs 2,200 crore.
