TCS to hire 25,000 freshers

Tata Consultancy Services announced plans to hire 25,000 freshers for FY2026–27 and said future hiring will be tied directly to business demand. The company framed the intake as conditional on commercial needs rather than an open‑ended headcount expansion. (trak.in)

Tata Consultancy Services has made 25,000 campus offers for fiscal year 2026-27, with any additional fresher hiring tied to client demand. (economictimes.indiatimes.com) Chief executive K Krithivasan told Press Trust of India that the company has already made those 25,000 offers for fiscal year 2027 and would hire more only if demand becomes clearer. Business Today and The Times of India both reported the same comments on April 13 and April 12. (businesstoday.in, timesofindia.indiatimes.com) That is below the 44,000 freshers Tata Consultancy Services hired in fiscal year 2025-26. LiveMint, Business Standard and ETHRWorld all described the new number as a pullback from last year’s intake. (livemint.com, business-standard.com, economictimes.indiatimes.com) The timing tracks a year in which Tata Consultancy Services kept winning large contracts but still reported softer annual growth. On April 9, the company said fiscal year 2025-26 revenue was $30.0 billion, down 0.5% year over year, while total contract value reached $40.7 billion for the year. (tcs.com) Its workforce numbers show the same mixed picture. Tata Consultancy Services said total headcount stood at 584,519 at March 31, 2026, after adding 2,356 employees in the January-March quarter, while Economic Times reported that headcount was still down 23,460 from a year earlier. (tcs.com, economictimes.indiatimes.com) The company is also hiring differently inside the same labor market. Chief human resources officer designate Sudeep Kunnumal said recruitment in fiscal year 2025-26 was concentrated in artificial intelligence, data, enterprise solutions, software engineering, cloud, cyber security and digital engineering, and Deccan Herald reported Tata Consultancy Services also hired more than 750 people with consulting expertise. (deccanherald.com) Tata Consultancy Services has kept emphasizing fresher intake even as it shifts toward higher-skill roles. In its January quarter statement, the company said it had doubled intake of fresh graduates with “higher order skills,” linking campus hiring more tightly to artificial intelligence and next-generation work. (tcs.com) For graduates in India’s engineering colleges, the message is narrower than a headline hiring number suggests. Tata Consultancy Services is still making one of the country’s biggest campus bets, but the company is now saying plainly that the final number will move with demand, not with a fixed annual target.
