a16z Launches New Grad Fellowship

The a16z Alpha Fellowship offers two distinct paths for recent and soon-to-be graduates: a "Founder Track" and a "Startup Track". The Founder Track provides a $20,000 equity-free grant and the potential for a subsequent $250,000 investment to help individuals start their own companies. The Startup Track places engineers in full-time roles at rapidly growing portfolio companies of Andreessen Horowitz and EO Ventures. Both tracks of the fellowship include an eight-week, in-person program that kicks off with a retreat. This immersive experience provides fellows with access to the a16z Speedrun and EO Ventures communities, featuring curated dinners and discussions with engineering leaders, founders, and investors. For those on the Founder Track, successful completion can lead to fast-tracked consideration for the a16z Speedrun accelerator, which offers up to $1 million in investment. The creation of the Alpha Fellowship was driven by the observation that AI has significantly lowered the barrier for individuals, including students and those working on side projects, to ship meaningful products without needing large teams or substantial capital. The program is co-led by Katia Ameri and Jordan Mazer. The application deadline for the inaugural cohort was March 6, 2026. This move by a16z reflects a broader trend of venture capital firms establishing structured pathways for emerging talent. Other firms like 8VC and Kleiner Perkins also run fellowship programs that embed students in portfolio companies.
