TECNO to Unveil AI-Powered Phones
Phone brand TECNO is set to unveil its new flagship CAMON 50 smartphone series at MWC 2026. The launch will focus heavily on an ecosystem of AI-driven products, highlighting the growing trend of integrating advanced AI capabilities directly into consumer electronics.
TECNO's focus on artificial intelligence is part of a broader company strategy focused on "Practical AI," which aims to deliver useful and accessible AI-powered features to consumers in emerging markets. This approach has guided their product development since 2024 and focuses on enhancing productivity and creativity through localized applications. In 2025 alone, TECNO processed over 500 million user requests, with a significant portion being image-related tasks in non-English languages. The CAMON 50 series' camera system is built around a 50MP Sony LYT-700C main sensor with optical image stabilization. The higher-end models, like the Camon 50 Pro and Ultra 5G, also feature a 50MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, enabling features like a 60X "SuperZoom" and "Super-Zoom FlashSnap" for capturing fast-moving subjects without shutter lag. This hardware is paired with a dedicated AI computing architecture to power features like "AI Auto Zoom," which intelligently frames subjects. Beyond photography, the CAMON 50 series integrates a suite of AI tools branded as a "Creative AI Hub." This includes an AI Art Gallery to transform photos, a health assistant for real-time monitoring, and productivity features like "One-Tap FlashMemo." The upgraded Ella AI assistant will also be a core part of the experience, offering enhanced contextual understanding for tasks like summarizing YouTube videos and replying to WhatsApp messages. While the CAMON 50 series is the main highlight, TECNO is also using MWC 2026 to showcase a wider ecosystem of AI-driven devices. This includes an evolving portfolio of MEGABOOK laptops, AI-enhanced smart wearables, and the OneLeap solution for cross-device connectivity. This push into a broader ecosystem signals TECNO's ambition to create a unified intelligent experience for its users. In a move to blend high-performance technology with luxury design, TECNO has also announced a strategic partnership with Tonino Lamborghini. The initial collaboration will see the launch of a co-branded Tonino Lamborghini TECNO TAURUS gaming mini-PC and a limited edition of the POVA Metal smartphone, a separate series from the CAMON line. TECNO has a history of using MWC to present not just commercial products, but also ambitious concept devices. At MWC 2026, the company is showcasing a modular smartphone concept with magnetic attachments for hardware expansion, such as a telephoto lens or a power bank. While only a concept for now, this follows their trend of turning past MWC concepts, like the ultra-thin SPARK Slim, into commercially available products, suggesting features from this modular system could appear in future devices. The new flagship phones will feature 6.78-inch AMOLED displays with a 144Hz refresh rate for smooth visuals. The Pro model will have a curved display, while the standard version's is flat. Both phones are equipped with large batteries, around 6150-6500mAh, and support 45W fast charging. They also come with IP68 and IP69 ratings for significant water and dust resistance, even allowing for underwater photography. This MWC showing is a significant step for TECNO, a brand under Transsion, which holds a commanding 48% smartphone market share in Africa as of 2025. By pushing into more premium hardware and a wider AI ecosystem, TECNO is aiming to solidify its dominance in key markets while also expanding its global presence and brand recognition.
