Cabot Names 'Acorn' its 2026 Color of the Year

Exterior stain brand Cabot has announced 'Acorn' as its 2026 Color of the Year. The company describes the golden-brown tone as being inspired by heritage craftsmanship and a growing embrace of outdoor living spaces.

The selection of Acorn aligns with a broader industry shift towards warmer, earthy neutrals for home exteriors. Design trends for 2026 favor these tones over the stark whites and cool grays that previously dominated, emphasizing a desire for inviting and grounded living spaces. This choice represents a continuation of the natural and darker tones seen in Cabot's 2025 Color of the Year, Burnt Hickory. That color, a deep brown with charcoal undertones, was inspired by the Japanese art of Shou Sugi Ban. In color psychology, shades of brown are associated with stability, reliability, and warmth. The use of a color like Acorn aims to create a sense of comfort and connection to nature, turning outdoor areas into relaxing sanctuaries. Other paint and coatings brands have also selected nature-inspired and warm hues for 2026. Benjamin Moore chose 'Silhouette,' a rich espresso color, while California Paints selected 'Cactus Valley,' inspired by desert landscapes. Valspar opted for 'Warm Eucalyptus,' a green with warm undertones.
