Assassin's Creed Shadows Ending Support

Assassin's Creed Shadows is entering its final phase of developer support after its run as a story-driven action-adventure. Ubisoft is preparing an anniversary livestream for March 20 to provide updates and retrospectives on the game's journey. The title maintained steady popularity within the action-adventure community throughout its lifecycle.

Released on March 20, 2025, Assassin's Creed Shadows is the fourteenth main installment in the series, set in 16th-century Japan. The game introduced dual protagonists: Naoe, a shinobi, and Yasuke, a samurai inspired by a historical figure. Upon release, the game received generally favorable reviews from critics. Ubisoft announced that *Shadows* achieved the second-highest day-one sales revenue in the franchise's history, ranking behind only *Assassin's Creed Valhalla*. However, some analysts later reported that the game's sales of 4.3 million copies after seven months were lower than expected, especially considering its significant budget. Post-launch support was outlined in a Year 1 roadmap, which notably deviated from previous titles by not including a Season Pass. The main paid downloadable content was a single major expansion titled "Claws of Awaji," developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux and released on September 16, 2025. This expansion added over 10 hours of new story content on the new region of Awaji Island. Throughout its first year, the game received numerous free updates that added features based on community feedback. These included a New Game Plus mode, parkour system enhancements, new quests, and crossover events with properties like *Dead by Daylight* and *Balatro*. The level cap was also progressively increased to 100. The upcoming livestream marks the game's first anniversary and a transition to its final phase of support, which will involve smaller and less frequent updates. The development teams are shifting their focus to future projects in the Assassin's Creed series.
