Anthropic enhances Claude Code with practical features
Anthropic has rolled out updates for its Claude Code assistant, including slash commands and support for SSH environments, to improve its utility in production settings. The new features reflect a focus on practical, enterprise-ready functionality. In a sign of growing adoption, Spotify has integrated Claude to help streamline its coding processes and accelerate feature rollouts.
- Spotify's integration is powered by an internal system named "Honk," which allows engineers to prompt Claude Code for changes and deploy code directly from Slack. According to Spotify's co-CEO, the workflow is casual enough that an engineer can request a bug fix on their commute and have a new version of the app ready to merge by the time they arrive at the office. - The new slash commands are part of a broader evolution into a system called "Skills." Initially, slash commands were user-triggered shortcuts for prompts, but the AI agent can now decide to invoke these "Skills" on its own as part of its reasoning process to complete a task. - The SSH support and other features are part of Anthropic's strategy to differentiate Claude Code from GitHub Copilot. While Copilot focuses on real-time, inline IDE suggestions, Claude is optimized for more complex, conversational tasks, leveraging a large context window to analyze or refactor entire codebases. - Enterprise-grade controls have been a key focus of the rollout, giving administrators the ability to manage premium seats, set spending limits, and view usage analytics like suggestion accept rates directly from an admin panel. These governance features are designed to appeal to enterprises that prioritize security and compliance alongside productivity. - Spotify's co-CEO, Gustav Söderström, stated that the company's top engineers have not manually written a line of code since December 2025. Their roles have shifted from writing code to architecting systems and reviewing AI-generated output. - The updates are part of a larger enterprise strategy centered on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), a standard Anthropic is pushing to connect AI agents with enterprise systems. By making Claude the most optimized model for MCP, Anthropic aims to make it the default choice for enterprise-scale AI agent deployments. - Anthropic's enterprise offerings emphasize AI safety and constitutional AI as a competitive advantage. The company provides features like exportable audit trails and configurable data retention policies to appeal to regulated industries and risk-averse government buyers.
