2026 NACS Port Adoption
The Kia EV9 and Rivian R1S will adopt native NACS charging ports starting with the 2026 model year.
Kia and Rivian's move reflects a broader industry shift toward Tesla's NACS. Other manufacturers, like Ford, GM, and Volvo, have already announced similar plans to transition to NACS, indicating a potential new standard for EV charging in North America. This transition could improve the charging experience for EV9 and R1S owners. NACS connectors are smaller and lighter than CCS, and Tesla's Supercharger network is extensive. However, existing EV9 and R1S vehicles with CCS ports will still need adapters to use Tesla Superchargers. These adapters will allow older models to access the Supercharger network until CCS chargers are phased out. The shift to NACS might eventually lead to a more unified and reliable public charging infrastructure. A single standard could reduce confusion and improve availability for all EV drivers.
