Lebanon Elks Launch Reading Program
The Lebanon Elks and community library are partnering to launch a free reading program honoring Lt. Lebo. The program will offer reading sessions and activities for children, aiming to promote literacy and community engagement.
The reading program is the 4th annual event hosted by the Lebanon Elks Lodge 631 and the Lebanon Community Library, honoring Lt. William Lebo. This year's event will be held on March 28 and feature officers from the Lebanon Police Department as guest readers, along with crafts, free books, and school supplies for children. Lt. William Lebo served with the Lebanon City Police Department for 40 years before being killed in the line of duty in March 2022, just a month before his planned retirement. He was shot while responding to a domestic-related burglary. The William D. Lebo Memorial Foundation was established to honor his legacy and support the Lebanon County community. The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, founded in 1868, focuses on charity, justice, brotherly love, and fidelity. The Lebanon Elks Lodge 631 concentrates its efforts on youth and veterans through benevolent programs. The Elks National Foundation helps Elks build stronger communities by developing skills and promoting the joy of reading. The Lebanon Community Library provides resources for lifelong learning, including story times and summer learning programs. They also offer access to books, computers, and other media free of charge. The library's programs aim to empower individuals, enrich the community, and inspire curiosity.
