Safran Opens Aviation MRO Hub in Hyderabad
French aerospace company Safran is launching a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) hub for civil aviation engines in Hyderabad. The investment meets local demand for high-skill technical support and supply chain services. This move further reinforces Hyderabad's growing importance as a hub for enterprise technology, R&D, and logistics.
- This MRO facility is dedicated to CFM International LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines, which power new generation narrowbody aircraft like the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX. - The project represents a €200 million investment in a 45,000-square-meter facility that will become operational in 2026. - At full capacity, the hub will be able to service up to 300 engines per year and will employ over 1,000 highly skilled technicians and engineers. - This is the first MRO facility established in India by a major global aircraft engine original equipment manufacturer (OEM). - The facility is located at the GMR Aerospace and Industrial Park near Hyderabad's international airport and was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. - Safran also announced a €40 million investment in an adjacent facility to service the M88 engines that power the Dassault Rafale fighter jets used by the Indian Air Force. - This move addresses a significant gap, as Indian airlines have historically sent more than 80% of their aircraft engines overseas for overhaul. - The investment is part of Safran's broader strategy to triple its revenue in India to over €3 billion by 2030 and significantly increase its local sourcing.
