Switch 2 version delayed

IO Interactive has pushed the Nintendo Switch 2 version of 007 First Light out of the May 27 launch window used by other platforms, saying the Switch 2 release will arrive 'later this summer'. (nordic.ign.com) The developer reconfirmed that PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S remain on track for May 27 while the Switch 2 build needs more time. (invenglobal.com) (nme.com)

IO Interactive just split the launch of its new James Bond game in two: 007 First Light still hits personal computer, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and Series S on May 27, but the Nintendo Switch 2 version has slipped to “later this summer.” (ign.com) That means Nintendo’s new machine will miss the day-one release by at least several weeks, because Nintendo launched Switch 2 on June 5, 2025 and IO Interactive has not given the handheld version a firm replacement date yet. (nintendo.com) (ign.com) 007 First Light is not a movie tie-in with Daniel Craig’s Bond or Sean Connery’s Bond pasted into a game. IO Interactive says it is an original origin story about a younger James Bond earning his 00 status inside the Secret Intelligence Service training program known as Military Intelligence, Section 6. (ioi.dk) IO Interactive is the Danish studio behind Hitman, a series built around disguises, stealth, and carefully staged missions. That matters here because 007 First Light is the same studio’s first full Bond game, after the project spent years under the placeholder name Project 007. (ioi.dk) (radiotimes.com) This is also the second schedule change for the game in a few months. In January 2026, IO Interactive moved the whole game from March 27 to May 27 and said it needed extra polish even though the game was already fully playable. (gadgets360.com) Now the extra time is only for one version, which usually means the game itself is far enough along but one platform build is lagging behind. IO Interactive’s public message kept the reason broad and simply said the Switch 2 edition needs more time. (ign.com) (techraptor.net) That kind of split launch is common when a game has to run on both a living-room console and a handheld-style machine with different performance targets. Switch 2 is much stronger than the first Switch, but publishers still often need separate optimization work for image quality, battery use, and frame rate. (nintendo.com) (nintendolife.com) For Bond fans, the practical result is simple: if you planned to play 007 First Light on Nintendo hardware, you are now waiting past May 27 while every other announced platform stays on the calendar. IO Interactive’s store page still lists pre-orders and describes the same core game across platforms, but only Switch 2 has lost its exact date. (ioi.dk) (ign.com) The next thing to watch is whether “later this summer” turns into a short delay like July or a longer slide toward August or September. Until IO Interactive names a day, the Bond game’s first mission starts on May 27 everywhere except Nintendo Switch 2. (ign.com)
