Miami Ohio Finishes Perfect Season

Miami (Ohio) completed an undefeated regular season with an overtime win over Ohio in the Mid-American Conference. Their perfect run positions them as MAC tournament favorites and potential Cinderella candidates for March Madness.

The RedHawks capped their perfect 31-0 season with a dramatic 110-108 overtime victory against their rival, Ohio. Junior guard Eian Elmer led the charge with a career-high 32 points and 12 rebounds, while Trey Perry added 21 points. The win marked Miami's first victory in Ohio's home arena since 2011. This historic run makes Miami just the fifth NCAA Division I men's basketball program to complete an undefeated regular season in this century. The 31-0 record is only the sixth time a team has achieved the feat in the last 50 years. The team has been resilient, with this being their third overtime win of the season and their ninth victory decided by a single possession or in overtime. The achievement marks a significant turnaround under fourth-year head coach Travis Steele. After two losing seasons, the team set a school record with 25 wins last year before being eliminated in the MAC tournament championship game. This season, the RedHawks lead the nation with a 52.6% field goal percentage and rank third in scoring with 90.3 points per game. As the top seed, Miami now heads to the Mid-American Conference tournament in Cleveland. They are scheduled to face No. 8 seed UMass in the quarterfinals on Thursday, March 12, at the Rocket Arena. The winner of the tournament will secure an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
